Remote First Aid (Formerly Wilderness & Remote First Aid)

This fun and interactive 20-hour course is a must for anyone who spends time more than an hour away from medical aid. This course includes trip planning and preparation, adult, child and infant CPR (Level ‘C’), obstructed airway procedures, artificial respiration, use of an Automated External Defibrillator, prevention of disease transmission, and wound management. Recognition and first-aid treatment for drowning/partial drowning, heart attack and stroke, allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock, hypothermia, heat stroke, bone, muscle and joint injuries, poisons, burns, diabetic emergencies, head and spine injuries, evacuation and transportation, and extended care will also be covered. Participants spend the majority of the course doing hands-on first-aid and participating in first aid scenarios. By practicing with scenarios, students gain confidence, learn to improvise and react in emergency situations.

Duration: 20 hours
Hours: Course will be held over 2 x 9hr days (9am – 6pm) plus 1 x 4hr evening for scenarios (7pm-11pm)


Wilderness First Aid (Formerly Advanced Wilderness First Aid)

Comprehensive first aid and CPR techniques for those who need a higher level of training to work and respond to emergencies in isolated or wilderness settings. Most of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training.Training is also suitable for those who act as overnight guides, day guides or supervisors for groups of people outdoors. The course consists of evening first-aid scenarios and day time scenarios. 80% of this course is taught outside. It is important that students taking this course are prepared for being in the wilderness.

Duration: 40 hours
Hours: Course will be held over 4 x 9hr days (9am – 6pm) plus 1 x 4hr evening for scenarios (7pm-11pm)


Wilderness Upgrade (Formerly Advanced Upgrade)

This 20-hour advanced upgrade course will go more in depth into splinting, longer term care scenarios (over 24 hours from medical aid), monitoring of vital signs and packaging scenarios. Other advanced skills including how to rule out spinal injuries, reducing dislocations, realigning fractures, jaw thrusts and night scenarios will also be covered.
