FR/OFA 3 Upgrade to EMR

This FR/OFA 3 upgrade to EMR course is only available to those already holding either a valid First responder (FR) or OFA 3 certificate. This Canadian Red Cross upgrade course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness in a pre-hospital setting.

This course meets the Paramedic Association of Canada National Occupational Competency Profile for the practitioner level of emergency medical responder (EMR).Completion of this course allows students to apply for licensing with the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB) and can be used to help gain employment with fire departments throughout British Columbia or on-ambulance as an EMR with the BC Ambulance Service.

This course is very fast paced. This is not a full EMR course, it is a bridging course. This course is recommended for participants currently working in the field and using their skills regularly. It is recommended to take the bridging course within 3 months of your OFA 3 or First Responder course if you are not using your first aid skills frequently or working in the field.
You are required to read the whole emergency care manual prior to the course beginning and complete the workbook.
Once you have registered for the course, you will receive a digital copy of the manual.
The hours of the course may vary depending on class sizes and exams. The last day of the course typically will run later due to the exam process. Please send us an email if you have any obligations in the evenings during the course so we can let you know approximate end times each day.
