This FR/OFA 3 upgrade to EMR course is only available to those already holding either a valid First responder (FR) or OFA 3 certificate. This Canadian Red Cross upgrade course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness in a pre-hospital setting.
This course meets the Paramedic Association of Canada National Occupational Competency Profile for the practitioner level of emergency medical responder (EMR).Completion of this course allows students to apply for licensing with the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB) and can be used to help gain employment with fire departments throughout British Columbia or on-ambulance as an EMR with the BC Ambulance Service.
Duration: 10 Days (80 hours Monday to Friday) plus 12 hours online learning
Prerequisites:
Students must have one of the following:
- First Responder Certification,
- First Responder License, or
- Occupational First Aid Level 3 Certification
Participants must be present for the entire course and pass the exam in order to pass the course.
